Retail Royalty

Edward Berwick, the "Merchant Prince", was a founding father of Shelburne. His 1870s business success was based largely upon technological advancement - the railway.

All of the major banks and trust companies, as well as some credit unions, have branches in Headwaters Country. In addition, there are numerous financial planning and management services providers.


Employment Services

Dufferin Human Resource Centre is a unique partnership between Human Resources Development Canada, the Government of Ontario, the County of Dufferin and Georgian College. Shelburne's newspaper is The Shelburne Free Press & Economist, with weekly circulation. The quarterly magazine In the Hills is a "magazine of country living" for the area. In addition, the Headwaters area is served by the major Toronto dailies.

Cable service is provided by Rogers Cable. A full range of Southern Ontario radio stations is available. Both local and major Canadian Internet service providers furnish Web access.


Hotels, Motels & Restaurants

The area is served by a wide range of overnight and longer term accommodations, from charming B&Bs to full scale conference and spa facilities, all within easy reach. Some 465 hotel and motel units are available nearby. Fine dining, gourmet take-out, banquet facilities and all the major fast food outlets are well represented.

Three area hotels provide conference facilities, each within an hour of Pearson International Airport.
