The Grace Tipling Concert Hall, located within the Shelburne Town Hall, was designed by architect Frank Grant Dunbar and constructed in 1882. Mr. Dunbar also designed the Orangeville Town Hall.

The building originally housed the Council chambers and offices, the Divisional Court, the post office and the "lock-up". In the summer of 1888, the bell tower was erected and the bell was rung every working day at 7 a.m., 12 noon, 1 p.m. and 6 p.m. for more than three-quarters of a century.

For over 50 years, the Grace Tipling Concert Hall was the social centre of the village. Professional show troupes performed on stage. Local organizations including the Citizen Bank, the Quadrille Assembly, the Philharmonic Society, the Ladies Silver Trumpet Band and Dance Orchestra and John Jelly's Roller Skating Club, used it for meetings. For a short time, space was provided for a general store, a butcher shop and a shoe store.

Later, the public library was located in the Hall and the Dufferin Farmer's Mutual Insurance Company had its beginning there. It served various churches and Sunday schools. Motion pictures were shown to full houses until the advent of television in the late 1940s. The present renovation revived and continued the historic versatility of the building as a focal part of the community.

Grace Tipling lived in Shelburne between 1912 and 1992. Many will still remember her. She played the organ for the Anglican Church. She taught music and was engaged in several local musical groups. Her father, years before, had a blacksmith shop just north of the present Royal Bank location. When Grace died, she left her Bell Telephone stock to the Town of Shelburne and this significant donation was used for the renovation, hence, the name, the Grace Tipling Concert Hall. In addition to the Grace Tipling Concert Hall, the Shelburne Town Hall currently houses the municipal office, police services and a year-round art exhibit of several local artists.

The Grace Tipling Concert Hall really must be seen to fully appreciate the beauty of the facility. The acoustics are superb and every seat offers an excellent view of the stage. There is seating for 195, room for two wheelchairs and elevator access to the Hall. There is a wide variety of productions in the Hall, from Michael Burgess to local theatre and high school productions. In addition, the Hall has been the venue for several weddings, a high school reunion and retirement functions. Council chambers are also available to rent for small meetings.

Deposits: A deposit equal to 50% of the approximate total rental fee is payable at the time of booking. A damage deposit of $150 is due at the time of booking. This will be refunded after the event provided there has been no damage and the premises have been left in a clean and tidy condition. A rental booking is not considered firm until a contract is signed and the deposits are paid.
Cancellations: Eight weeks' written notice is required for cancellations. A $50 cancellation fee will be applied to all cancellations.
Ticket Sales: A handling fee of 50� per ticket will be charged by the Town of Shelburne for any ticket sales from the front desk of the municipal office.
Coat Racks: There are four coat racks available for use at a cost of $2.50 per rack per day.
